Informations about what artbellwald.ch offers to its resident artists:
- what: a residency for professional artists of diffent art styles and countries
- where: Bellwald, Canton of Valais, Switzerland, mountain village of 400 inhabitants at 1600 m altitude
- studio: old renovated barn (with internet connection) in the middle of the village
- accomodation: 2-room apartment on the third floor without elevator, nearby the studio
- support: SFr. 1’500.00 per month
- awarded by: the association artbellwald.ch as well as the department for culture of the Canton of Valais
- awarded to: professional artists
- arts: painting, sculpture, literature, photography, multi media, composition, architecture, industrial and fashion design etc.
- age and nationality: without restriction
- duration of stay: 2 to 4 months
The application for artists is done by completing the application form which you can find online:
- please fill in the form completely (biography, career as an artist, portfolio, project description for your stay in Bellwald and motivation for Bellwald. These documents are to be sent as PDF together with the application form. Should a PDF be larger than 10MB, please send it by e-mail
- in addition the applicant will send one complete set of the application (A4 format; CDs, books, publications, etc.) by post between September 1st and October 31st (postmark) to the association artbellwald.ch, P.O. Box 29, 3997 Bellwald, Switzerland
- artbellwald.ch confirms the receipt of the documents upon arrival by post
- the applications are viewed by the board of the association between December and January
- the examination and approval of the application files by the Department of Health, Social Affairs and Culture of the canton of Valais take usually place by the end of February
- artbellwald.ch informs all applicants by e-mail.
- Documents will not be returned. All application documents remain in the possession of the association artbellwald.ch
Application conditions:
- artistic and creative work should be done during the stay
- towards the end of the residency there will be an open art day, a reading or a small concert. It gives the artists the possibility to show their works “made in Bellwald” to the members of the association, the village population and the guests present in Bellwald
- at the end of their stay, the artists leave to the association a work created in Bellwald as gratitude
- all artists must be in possession of a liability insurance and a health and accident insurance
Special instructions:
- travel and all other expenses are matter of the artists
- visa or other necessary documents are responsibility of the artists
- all materials required must be organised by the artist; there are no music instruments available in Bellwald
- Switzerland has other sockets, take the necessary adapters with you
- there are no other artists in the residence
- friends, family etc. staying with the artist pay SFr. 10.00 per person per night.
